Biržų Alus Širvenos

It is a beer characterized by in particular solid and well expressed taste. It is named after the lake, which was formed by artificial way, by damming two rivers. This beer was also born by this lake. The secret aftertaste of this beer is given by peas, used in its’ composition. It is told that peas were grown in the farms by Širvėna lake from the ancient time and in XVIIIth century the beer brewers decided to use in the production of beer for the first time. This experiment had served the purpose and from that time peas became the traditional ingredient of this sort of beer. In the cellas of „Biržų alus“ beer brewery, recalling XVIIIth century, beer is still matured in the same way, as many years ago.
