Beer description
The first rye beer on the market in modern history and one of the first beers on the market brewed from organic ingredients. The original recipe, created by combining historical beer brewing methods in Třeboň with current technology and beer brewing trends, was given to the brewery owner on his 60th birthday. Later, the brewery joined forces with the Hop Research Institute in Žatec, which introduced organic hop cultivation in Bohemia and brewed batches of this beer using hops grown by the institute.
The malts have been organic since the beginning of this collaboration, and four types are used: in addition to the aforementioned rye, there are three types of barley: light, Bavarian, and caramel. Rye brings a distinctive fullness, breadiness, and specific flavor, but also lower fermentation and therefore lower alcohol content. Together, the balanced combination of these ingredients gives Český granát its characteristic reddish hue. Its intense flavor, full of unusual, especially fruity tones, is due not only to the use of rye, but also to the specific strain of yeast used for fermentation. This is a top-fermenting yeast.
For the production of Český granát, the brewery has implemented a regularly verified certified organic production system.
