Beer description
Already in the 15th century, beer was mentioned for the first time in the history books under the name Quackeltheiss. The beer was drunk in the Rendsburg/Eckernförde region, in the Schlei region, and even at the Danish royal court. At that time, there were about 30 breweries in Eckernförde. Quackeltheiss was the most well-known beer. According to legend, the papal envoy Cardinal Peraudi was passing through Eckernförde in 1503. After enjoying the beer Quackeltheiss, he is said to have said, "Belle Cacare!" The common folk turned this into Kakabellen beer.
