Based on the legend of Trijntje Jans and the wild Bull. The painted scene above the entrance to Bulle church leaves little to ambiguity. It is 1647 and the heavily pregnant Trijntje, like her husband, was trying to subdue the bull. However, she was taken on the sharp horns without compassion. This resulted in an unintended caesarean section, giving birth to the child. Trijntje and her husband did not survive this, the child did. Nine months later, the child still died. The family was buried in the church and thus continued to live on as Bullekerk.
