Beer description

Oude Luiaard is a sour ale obtained by assembling our wild farmhouse Invernomuto with the 18-month Lambic of Oud Beersel . The name of this beer literally means old sloth in Flemish and is intended to celebrate the meeting of our Brada brewery, located in Italy, near Bologna, with the Oud Beersel brewery , in Pajotteland, Belgium. The illustration on the label features the famous Beersel Castle – the brewery's symbol – against the backdrop of a statue standing in the middle of the lake in front. This monument is inspired by the 19th-century marble sepulchral sculpture by Putti, dedicated to Anna Maria Ferreris ( a Flemish woman born in Brussels), located in the evocative Certosa monumental cemetery in Bologna . The statue is an allegorical representation of the inexorable passage of time – so dear to us in our refinements – and is particularly symbolic, being dedicated to a Flemish woman who lived her life in the city of Bologna. Information on the work here . Given our work focused on wild and sour beers (and oak -aged beers ), being able to use a traditional Lambic – a spontaneously fermented beer from Pajottenland, Belgium – in a blend is an honor for us and a wonderful opportunity to embrace a brewing culture that we are deeply fascinated by. We are doubly happy about this collaboration with Gert Christiaens – protagonist in the modern rebirth of this famous Belgian brewery in 2005 – as the refinements of Oud Beersel are characterised by great elegance and balance , characteristics that we feel are deeply in tune with the production philosophy of our Cantina Brassicola: simplicity instead of spectacularity, nuances instead of peaks.
