Beer description

"The hoppy Märkische Helles" / Old German Lager. The Mörkš was one of our first beers, the base recipe was the one for Kölsch from the book "Craft Beer selber brauen" by Heike and Fritz Wülfing. After a visit to Cologne and a trip to Belgium, we were freshly inspired and started our first attempt. The idea: a refreshing top-fermented beer with good natural cloudiness and a fruity-herbal hop flavor, all brewed of course with our hard brewing water. After countless batches with different hop varieties, we finally found Cascade to be the most beautiful. The name was originally intended to be "Märkisches Kölsch", after the origin of the recipe. Surprisingly, we had to realize that the good old Kölsch has such a bad reputation up here that the name is not marketable. And since it is brewed out of sight from the Cologne Cathedral, naturally cloudy, and with "American hops", it no longer has much to do with Kölsch, so the addition gradually fell by the wayside. The "scratchy" aftertaste, caused by the hardness of the water, which very attentive tasters notice and sometimes criticize, we find quite fitting. After all, we are not in friendly Cologne here, but in the East, my friend. This is not a Kölsch and not a mild English ale, but Mörkš - the Märkische Ale!

Naturtrübes obergäriges Bier, was an ein Kölsch rankommt. Schmeckt fruchtig, nach Zitrus und Grapefruit, dazu leicht bitter im Gaumen. Erfrischend zu trinken
