Beer description
A very special beer is in front of me. A barley wine from Denmark on the island of Fur. This 9.5% beer comes from the brewery of the same name, which is often one of the strongest beers in a brewery and has tended to be forgotten in recent years. In the United States you can find them more and more, now people are starting to brew this strong beer again in Europe too. The Barley Wine is so called because, due to the high alcohol content, it actually goes more towards wine. Which is absolutely true here. Carbon dioxide is also less present in this type of beer. So also with the beer that has now been poured. It glows deep red, the foam is ok, the smell is sweet. The initial taste is sweet, the carbon dioxide is actually rather low, but the perlage is still present. The beer is very tasty right at the beginning, the sweetness can be tasted on the lips, after all, cane sugar was also used for brewing this beer. You can taste this. The hops come through quickly, there is a pleasantly dosed bitterness. The beer is very malty, warm and round. After a short time the alcohol can be noticed, anything else would also be worrying :-) A delicious brew. First sweet with a rich maltiness, then the hops come through, which gives the beer the necessary bitterness. The finish is very long. All in all: delicious!
