This is very special cider from the UK. In contrast to the style of cider you may find in the states, cider that is made in the UK is made with cider apples, as opposed to culinary apples. Using these cider specific varieties lends a greater depth of flavor. The sugars in the apples are also not all fermentable like culinary apples, so there is no need to "back sweeten" the cider after fermentation, resulting in a natural semi-dry finish.
