Beer description

This extra strong black beer began to be brewed in the second half of the 18th century at Thrale's brewery in London specifically for export to Russia for the Tsarist court of Catherine II. Great. It is generally believed that the brewers at the London brewery adapted a recipe for a regular Stout that would not have lasted the journey. However, the high density and very high alcohol content of Imperial Stout eliminated the possibility of the beer freezing and spoiling during the 1,000-mile voyage across the Baltic Sea. We took inspiration from a historical publication published in London in 1851 to develop this special, and this year we supplemented the recipe with a few kilos of fresh and dried figs. These were added directly to the fermenting tank after maceration in premium cognac for several weeks. The result is the black colour of the night sky and a perfect harmony of flavours reminiscent of dark chocolate, coffee liqueur, Belgian pralines, ripe figs and cognac. This is our Russian Imperial Stout.
