Galdhøpiggen (2469) is the highest mountain in Northern Europe. ‘Piggen’ is located in central Jotunheimen in Lom municipality. The mountains in Jotunheimen are part of the Caledonian mountain range, which took its present form during the Ice Age about 12,000 years ago. Knud O. Vole was a legendary mountain guide in Jotunheimen for many years. He built the first cabins at Juvvatnet and at the top of Galdhøpiggen. This was very important for the development of tourism in the mountain area.
