Beer description
Being well known for their interest in and enjoyment of beer, friends of their founders often point them in direction of new discoveries or offer up tasty (and sometimes less tasty) finds of their own. In fact, in lieu of wedding gifts, Derek and Jean asked that if guests gave them anything to celebrate their nuptials it should be a new beer to try rather than some toaster or serving dish.
One such recommendation came from a local friend named John. John, knowing how partial Derek is to the style, secured a pack of his favorite chocolate stout from Colorado and gave it to Derek to try. As you might guess, Derek loved it, too. In fact, he loved it so much that he set out to brew a chocolate stout of his own since he couldn’t find John’s recommendation anywhere in the state.
One recipe led to another which led to another as Derek experimented to find the right combination of ingredients. Finally, one day, Derek tried the first sip of a batch and he knew – he had struck chocolate. His first reaction, after taking several more sips, was to call John so he could try it, too.
“The Colorado,” John said after his first sip, “is now my second-favorite chocolate stout.”
The Chocolate Hook-Up hasn’t been given any awards yet, but we’re counting that as a win for dark, smooth and flavorful stout.
