Hopfensonne is most likely the first Rhön beer to be brewed exclusively with ingredients from the Rhön region. It is generally a light, golden yellow lager. Depending on the hops used, the flavor and aroma can range from a Munich-style light beer to a tart and fresh pilsner, depending on the vintage. The hops are brewed fresh without drying. Some of the hops are added during the brewing process. Another portion is added during secondary fermentation for a more intense aroma. This gives the beer a pleasant, fresh hop aroma.
