Limitations, a collaboration with our good friends at Cellarmaker, is the first in-person collaborative brew at Private Press. Cellarmaker makes some of the best beer in the Bay Area, and I was excited to collaborate on a recipe that would push the limitations of munichwine in a new direction. We brewed two separate batches of honey munichwine, one with California Toyon honey, and the other with Meodow Foam honey. Each batch aged across a variety of different bourbon barrels for a year. Four complimentary barrels established the base, and a barrel of barleywine really brought all together. Bright notes of honey, vanilla butter crème frosting, red rope, and marzipan come together in this style-bending blend.
