Strangeways Brewing - The Emperor’s Forbidden Rice Sake Lager

Black rice, known as the “Emperor’s” or “Forbidden” rice, has a rich cultural history dating to ancient times, although its exact date of origin is shrouded in secrecy. It was originally reserved exclusively for the Emperor in Ancient China and used as a tribute food. But more recently it has become prized for its high levels of antioxidants — hence our Asian-inspired lager packs more then 230 pounds of black rice. It also showcases ginger and Sorachi Ace hops. To take it one step further, it was specially finished with a Sake yeast. The result is an easy-drinking lager with a beautiful pink hue created by the use of this distinctively royal ingredient. To this we say, Gān Bēi!
