Description

The anchor brewery was a brewery in Nördlingen. The origin of the brewery goes back to 1608. Most recently (2016) the brewery had around 20 employees. The name Ankerbrauerei is derived from the symbol of the anchor, which has its origin as an inn symbol, which signaled the guests a safe haven for the night. The brewery was first mentioned in a document in 1608 and remained on the original site within the Nördlingen city wall. The company was family-run until the end. In January 2016, the management announced that the brewery would cease production on September 30, 2016 for economic reasons (cited were increasing cost pressure, changed consumer behavior and limited technical and structural options at the historic location). Since October 2016, the beers have been produced by Fürst Wallerstein Brauhaus GmbH according to the Ankerbräu recipe.
