Description
Hello,
my name is Maurice, founder, brewer, salesman, cleaner and much more at Néau Brewery.
In 2014, as a passionate beer drinker, I wrote my A-level thesis on Belgian beer culture. So I slipped from in front of the bar, behind it and finally into beer production. After a few years of home brewing in the cellar and a 2-year apprenticeship as a microbrewer, the dream of having my own brewery was a big one. Many ideas were there, but a suitable production facility and a name were still missing.
Another 2 years of searching and planning went by and in the summer of 2020 I opened the Néau brewery in my grandfather's renovated locksmith's workshop in the center of Eupen.
The name "Néau" may be familiar to some and can sometimes still be found on old maps.
Néau (or Neyåw) is Old French and was the name of Eupen at the time. The name originated from the word "Eau" and describes the excellent water quality in Eupen. This was the basis of the Eupen cloth industry (+-1554 to 1989), which can still be discovered in many places in Eupen.
As soft water is also ideal for the production of drinkable beers, the circle is complete.
Have fun discovering the website, the beers and the brewery!
