Description
Funkwerks was first opened in December 2010 by the owners Gordon Schuck and Brad Lincoln. Back in 2007, Gordon's brewing skills and ingenuity in recipes earned him a gold medal-winning season at the National Homebrew Competition. In the meantime, Brad's passion for craft beer came from his need for a good beer after a long day as an accountant in Portland, Oregon. The dynamic duo met for the first time in winter 2009 at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago. They both studied brewing science. After immersing themselves in beer for almost five months, the two completed their studies with flying colors and shared a common desire to open a brewery. Funkwerk was born with Brad's know-how and Gordon's superstar palate. Seasons was born as a Belgian peasant beer, which was brewed during the summer months for farm workers. Today's seasons are known for their dry profile and their complex fruity aromas. They are brewed all year round and generally have a higher alcohol content than their historical counterparts. Although Funkwerks has focused mainly on Seasons and Sours over the years, they have left plenty of room for experimentation and now offer a range of Belgian and American styles, small batches in barrel and other specialty brews.
