Description

You can read it on the labels of our beers from Unterbaar: the historic founding year 1608. Strictly speaking, the successful history of our brewery begins 100 years earlier. On November 24th, 1508, Duke Wolfgang von Bayern granted the noble family around Michael Riederer von Paar and his descendants the court rights for their three villages Oberbaar, Unterbaar and Wiesenbach. The privileges associated with Hofmarksrecht usually also included brewing rights. In order to convey his newly acquired dignity, the "Riederer" built a stately moated castle in 1510. Right next to it, only separated by the castle pond, the lord of the castle also built his brewery. A short time later, Wilhelm IV Herzog in Bavaria passed a law that was supposed to ensure the quality of Bavarian beers. We have known this since 1516 as the "Bavarian Purity Law", which we have of course always followed.
