Description

Sinebrychoff Brewery is a brewery and soft drink maker founded in Helsinki, Finland in 1819 by Russian emigrant Nikolai Sinebrychoff. Today Sinebrychoff is one of the oldest and largest breweries in Northern Europe and the oldest consumer goods manufacturer in Finland. Sinebrychoff employs around 1,000 people and a modern production facility in Kerava, around 30 km north of Helsinki, with an annual production of around four million hectoliters. It has been part of the international Carlsberg Group since 2000. See Carlsberg Group. The best-known beers from Sinebrychoff are the Koff and Karhu beers, brewed according to Bavarian tradition, and the popular Sinebrychoff Porter, a classic 7.2 ABV Baltic Porter. The company claims that the yeast used for the ale came from the now-defunct Park Royal Brewery in London, which was once one of the Guinness breweries. This porter has a rich mahogany color and a strong malty aroma of caramel, coffee and chocolate with a hint of liquorice in the finish. Despite its relatively light ABV, this beer can age quite well for several years. In addition to beer, Sinebrychoff produces cider and various brands of non-alcoholic beverages. It is also Finland's only Coca-Cola bottler.
