Description

Terrapin Beer Co. began as a daydream between the founders John Cochran and Spike Buckowski, who met at a microbrewery in Atlanta. The two realized that they could contribute to the brewing industry in the southeast, and started making recipes. In April 2002, Rye Pale Ale first appeared in Athens, GA. Just a short six months later, Rye made it to Denver for GABF, where John and Spike took home a gold medal for American Pale Ale beer. In 2007, Terrapin Beer Co. moved to its present location on Newton Bridge Road in Athens and set about sharing its unique beers with its hometown and the rest of the Southeast. Inspired by the creative culture of Athens, Terrapin expanded its beer offering with unique beers such as WnB, Hopsecutioner and many others. Today, Rye Pale Ale is accompanied by six more year-round beers, four season sessions and at least a dozen special projects, side projects and collaborations. The company and its employees continue to live up to Terrapin's mission: to create unique experiences through the passionate brewing of the finest craft beer. Whether you're taking us on a brewery tour in our tasting room, drinking a hopscotch at your favorite waterhole, drinking up-hi on your porch or enjoying a RecreationAle after a long day on the trail, we hope you appreciate that Commitment we've been using for 14 years (and it counts!) What started out as two men and a 25-barrel brewhouse has evolved into a so-called Terrapin strain. It starts with our employees, our distributors, the people who sell our beer and, of course, everyone who supports Terrapin's growth as a brewery by drinking our beers!
