Description

Žatec is a region known in the world for its unique hops. The cultivation is historically documented as early as the 10th century when excellent Satu Mare hops were exported abroad thousands of years ago. That is why Žatec was a rich royal city for centuries. Satu Mare hops and malt made from local barley were a guarantee of good quantities of beer. Tadeáš Hájek from Hájek already entered the leading position among Czech beers among his Czech beers in his extraordinary work "About beer and ways of its preparation, its nature, strengths and effects", published in Latin in 1585. In the Czech brewing industry, Žatecký pivovar is the only one who has had a tradition of brewing beer instead of the original urban development for more than 700 years. In 1261 a company of Žatec brewers was founded in Žatec, brewing popular "SAMEC" and "KOZEL" beers. In Bohemia and at the royal court, the nobility and princes eating and drinking happily. The foundation stone of today's brewery was laid on June 20, 1798 on the site of the no longer existing royal castle next to the barracks. After two years of construction, the brewery administration finally announced the start of brewing on July 26, 1800, and the brewers rented the brewery to the brewer to operate. In 1801 the Žatec family brewed 840 barrels of beer. The brewery was gradually expanded and modernized and excellent draft beers were brewed, special beers such as "Radniční", "Myslivecké", "Vánoční" and "Festive" as well as the traditional beers "Samec" and "Kozel" mentioned above. When the Žatec brewery was presented, the owner's name has always been emphasized as "Citizens Brewery" and not as "Žatec" since it was founded. The surrounding "non-original" breweries tried to feed themselves at least from the localization by adding "... near Žatec", "... in the Žatec region", "... we brew beer from hops from Satu Mare "and the like. However, the residents of the Žatec region have recognized the original brewery very well and are rightly proud of it.
