Trumer and Firestone Walker

Trumer and Firestone Walker

Trumer Privatbrauerei in Obertrum am Wallersee is one of the best-known names in Austrian brewing. Founded in 1601, family-owned since 1775 – eight generations of the Sigl family, one clear focus: pilsner. Whether the classic Trumer Pils, the lighter Session Pils or the robust Imperial Pils – variations on the style are at the heart of everything the brewery does. In the Austrian market, Trumer is a firmly established name, well beyond the borders of Salzburg.

Trumer Brewery, California

What is largely unknown outside Austria: Trumer has been brewing in the United States since 2004. A group of enterprising American craft brewers decided to skip the long journey across the Atlantic and built a sister brewery in Berkeley, California. Since then, Trumer Pils has been produced there according to the original recipe and to the standards of the Sigl family.

A few days ago, it became public: that brewery is closing. The Berkeley location is no longer viable – rising costs, skyrocketing real estate prices. From early summer, around mid-June, Firestone Walker Brewing in Paso Robles, California, will take over production for the US market.

A Promise

Firestone Walker is an institution in the craft beer world. Founded in 1996 by the Firestone and Walker families on California's Central Coast, the brewery is today one of the most influential names in American craft brewing – known for technical precision, a strong lager tradition and a passion for classic beer styles. Firestone Walker is no stranger in Europe either: the brewery has collected 48 awards at the European Beer Star to date.

Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, who will oversee Trumer production from summer onwards, makes a clear commitment: no reinterpretation, but preservation. Recipe, raw material sources, sensory profile – all unchanged.

Seppi Sigl, owner of Trumer Privatbrauerei, welcomes the partnership. He sees two family businesses that share the same ideas about quality and craftsmanship. Austrian production, needless to say, remains entirely unaffected.

Cheers. Prost.
