With the special malt RedX from BestMalz in Heidelberg, we took part in the "Best Brew Challenge" on 23 April 2015 and 23 June 2016; this is a world record attempt in which breweries from all over the world brew a beer with RedX at the same time. Our result: the Georgi! A copper-coloured full-bodied beer with 13.7% original wort and a fine bubbly head, which underlines the malt character with its mild hop note from the Tettnang aroma hops. Georgi because 23 April is not only the "Day of German Beer", but also St. George's Day. On this day in 1516, the Purity Law was enacted; moreover, the Purity Law states that beer could only be brewed between Michaelmas (29.9.) and Georgi (23.4.). This was because there were no refrigeration machines like today and only the cooler months were used for brewing; Märzen, for example, used to be brewed in March and had a higher alcohol content for better preservation and was hopped a little more strongly, and was served in late summer or early autumn. If you like, our Georgi is a genuine Märzen! By the way, St. George is also the patron saint of our suburb Zollenreute.
