Description

Since it was founded in 1216, the history of the Abbey of Val-Dieu has been symbolized by two rings whose motto is: "In Vinculo Pacis". The history of this Latin expression means "In the bonds of peace" and comes from the Bible (Ephesians). It reminds us that the way to happiness lies in encounter and humanity. Be gentle and patient, bear one another in love, and strive to maintain the unity of spirit "through the bond of peace". This peace is to be found with God, with your neighbor and with yourself. These two rings can be found in many places in the abbey (walls, floor, glass windows, chairs, doors, stove, etc.). They can also always be seen on the pendants worn by members of the Christian community. These rings are also a sign of distinction between them when visiting "sister monasteries". We can also find them on the new labels for Val Dieu beers.
