Description
The brewery St. Johann builds on a long-standing brewing tradition: from 1850 to 1919, three master brewers supplied Toggenburg with beer in succession: Gustav Sutter, Karl Wiedenmayer and Gustav Hail. However, the property to the wall is already much older: 1668 the house was first inhabited by Ammann Gregorius Scherrer, from 1803 to 1821 it housed the first governor of the canton of St. Gallen. In 2010, three Toggenburgers took a heart and developed a project with "hands and feet" out of a "beer idea": After decades of "abstinence", Toggenburg will once again have its own brewery and thus its own beer. The official starting signal for the realization came at the end of 2010 with the public share subscription. On November 23, 2012, the first barrel of St. Johann Hell was pierced, opening the brewery, brewery bar and restaurant to the wall.
