Description

Since 1809, the small town of Ochsenfurt am Main in Lower Franconia has had a brewery. It wasn't until 1974 that the Klosterbrauerei was renamed and became known as "Kauzen Bräu." The name has historical significance. In ancient, long-forgotten times, the town's guests were served a large silver goblet in the shape of an owl (Kauz). Anyone who could empty the "Ochsenfurter Kauz" in one go was allowed to proudly enter their name in the city's "Kauzenbuch" (Owl Book). In March 2020, the family owned Kauzen Bräu acquired the "Frankonia Brauspezialitäten" brand from the Wernecker Bierbrauerei, which had to close its doors after 400 years in operation.
