Our ambition was to give a twist to a barley wine base (a fairly strong malt beer with hints of dried fruit) by adding blueberries and dark maple syrup to create a pancake-inspired flavor. These two additions are just right to bring richness and complexity to the Barley Wine style, which, against all odds, comes through nicely behind the mound of blueberries and maple syrup that was thrown into the fermenter.
