What do you do when you are faced with the harsh challenges of being virtually cut off from the outside world on an isolated Island when you also have a passion for Craft Beer? They believe that their geographical position shouldn’t determine what they drink or how they live life.. So they decided to start their own microbrewery in the middle of the Baltic Sea.
They founded their company in early 2016 and were up and running (brewing), in December that same year. They believe that no one should determine what we brew or how we run our company so we are 100% self-owned and plan on staying that way. By being in total control of their company they can do things their own way. They are located in the southern part of the Aland Islands in Knutsboda, Lemland in an old factory.
Open Water Brewery was thought up during a small session at a local bar in the summer of 2015 by two co-workers, and shortly after that, they got reinforcements from another long-time friend. After the long process of getting the brewhouse in order, their first beer was on the shelves of the very same pub in which we dreamt up the brewery in the first place. Hopefully, they will be able to continue spreading our beer to more people every passing day.
