The Buergerliches Brauhaus was founded in 1882 as a joint stock company through the merger of the traditional breweries Schwabenbraeu and Schmalzingerbraeu. A total of 14 breweries in the old town joined the new company, including the Actienbrauerei (Danielbraeu and Herrnbraeu) in 1899.
Altbairisch Hell is brewed in a modern way based on a traditional recipe. The first brew with the new recipe was only made in April 2018. This beer should also appeal to non-beer drinkers, because it deliberately has fewer hops and thus fewer bitter units. The beer appears golden yellow in the glass, with a fine-pored head perched on top. The aroma is hoppy, and the onset is mild and spicy, while still remaining quite intense. The finish is reminiscent of hay and straw.
