Diageo said in a media release that the company will make "Grain Neutral Spirit (GNS) - an ethyl alcohol with 96% strength, mainly used in the production of vodka and gin - available free of charge to hand disinfectant manufacturers in several countries to help overcome bottlenecks in healthcare systems.
This donation will enable the production of more than eight million 250 ml bottles of hand disinfectant. Donations to national health systems and workers in the UK, Ireland, Italy, the US, Brazil, Kenya, India and Australia will also be part of the comprehensive donation plan.
AB InBev, the world's largest brewery, also does not want to be idle during these times: "We have converted the excess alcohol from our non-alcoholic beers into 50,000 litres of ready-to-use disinfectant, which we are donating to hospitals throughout Europe. We also have 26,000 bottles of hand disinfectant and a selection of non-alcoholic beers that we can distribute to key employees in the coming weeks," says Bart Grieten, Vice President Supply Europe of AB InBev in a message on LinkedIn.
