Brewer's Advent Day 8: Zwoenitzer Steinbier

Many German breweries are named after the town in which they are located. The Zwönitz brewery is no exception. It is in Zwönitz, a small village in eastern Germany, near the Czech border. The beer from the small pub brewery is sold exclusively in the region. The brewery includes a fine inn with a beautiful beer garden. The hours flow lazily by, foods are delicious. And the beers? Typical for the region is the Schwarzbier, also Rauchbier is brewed here and a wonderful Amber Lager. Plus, stout and IPA ... Drank one too many? Right next door is the small hotel that belongs to the brewery. Just rent a room and celebrate the day. Today, enjoy the wonderful Steinbier from Zwönitz. Brewed according to a very old tradition, medieval style. With glowing hot stones, the brewers heated the mash. There was no other way back then, but today the brewers love the roasted aromas and the caramel notes that arise when the stones are added into the wort. Delightful. Cheers!
