The roots of the private brewery lie deeply hidden in the “Zum Dräxlmair” brewery in Landshut, which was first mentioned in 1616. Two centuries later, in 1832, the married couple Michael and Anna Wittmann bought the “Zum Heiß” brewery. The excellent beer and the careful management of the Wittmann ancestors made it possible that the small brewery "Zum Dräxlmair" could be bought in 1862, laying the foundation for today's Wittmann brewery.
The double wealth of experience from the history of both breweries benefited everyone: the brewery became more and more popular, people appreciated the tasty beer and the hospitality - and Landshut got its liquid trademark. With the success it needed more space and so the brewery moved from the narrow Landshuter in 1905/06
Downtown on the distant outskirts. But Landshut also grew and grew - and today the Wittmann brewery is located in the middle of the Achdorf district. Later the administration had to be outsourced, which can be found today in the historic Etzdorf-Palais in Ländgasse.
The Wittmann brewery received royal honors when it was awarded the Royal Bavarian State Prize in Ludwig's time - for its outstanding achievements. This first award has been followed by many DLG awards in recent decades, such as the price of the best and 70 gold awards for the top quality of Wittmann beers. Where horse-drawn wagons used to pull beer kegs through the streets of Landshut, today a fleet of environmentally friendly trucks brings beer fresh to customers within a radius of 60 km from Landshut. The brewery is also technically up to date today, which is due not least to the constant investments in environmentally friendly and quality-oriented technology. In addition to the art of brewing, the Wittmann brewery places particular emphasis on sustainable and environmentally friendly beer production.
