According to the British law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC), there were 1,331 registered beer trademarks in the UK in 2013. 2,519 were counted for 2018. This is an increase of 89% and a new record.
Let's have a look to BrewDog, the popular Scottish Craftbrewery. The brewing Dogs currently have over 130 trademarks registered in the UK. Large global players are also contributing to the increase. Heineken, vor example, launched a new brand, Maltsmiths. The company wants to participate in the craft beer boom. Also AB InBev with it's brand Lisa or Marstons with Revisionist.
Ben Mark, partner at RPC, comments: “Established players have learnt from the success of new entrants to the craft beer market and realized they can’t just offer consumers one product or one brand.”
