Description

The history of the Licher private brewery began in 1854, when Johann Heinrich Jhring founded a steam beer brewery in Lich. Just four years later, Christoph Jakob Melchior also started brewing in neighboring Butzbach. In 1923, following the merger, the starting signal was given for a shared future, and Licher beers gained more and more fans – all under the first Licher trademark: the Hessen girl. In 1995, this was replaced by the kingfisher as the brand logo, which still stands for purity, freshness, and naturalness today. And not only in its Hessian homeland, but now also in more than 40 countries to which the fresh Licher beer is exported. In 2004, Licher celebrated its 150th anniversary with a special edition and a large roadshow. The Licher Privatbrauerei Jhring-Melchior became a member of the Bitburger Braugruppe GmbH in 2004. Since 2011, the Licher Privatbrauerei has also been brewing Benediktiner beers for Benediktiner Weissbräu GmbH, Ettal. The Benedictine monks of Ettal Abbey share their original Benedictine recipe with the master brewers from Lich, laying the foundation for a promising collaboration.
